About Tjalf Sparnaay

Signing Easter Egg by Tjalf Sparnaay

Tjalf Sparnaay has become one of the most important painters of our time in the movement known as Hyperrealism. Tjalf Sparnaay been working on an innovative oeuvre since the 80’s and he is constantly seeking for new images that had never been painted before. His artworks are in art collections all over the world and Sparnaay had solo museum exhibitions in Museum de Fundatie and Museum Jan. His work has also been exhibited in Rotterdam’s prestigious Kunsthal and in various other museums. His paintings were included in 50 Years of Hyperrealistic Painting, an international exhibition that toured through the USA and Europe and published in many books, magazines and newspapers.

Marcel Salome (Re-Art) about Tjalf Sparnaay.
It must have been 2005 when I first saw his work “Lollypop” in the window of a gallery. I was just passing by and I first thought the artwork was a photograph, but it had something magical so I wanted to take a closer look. I was impressed and I realized this was not a photograph but a real painting. Three years earlier (in 2003) I started my fine art printing studio Re-Art and I thought one day I must work together with this fantastic artist but I was to shy to contact him. A couple years later our roads crossed and since then we worked closely together, I am honored to print all his limited editions and most important we build up a good friendship.

Tjalf Sparnaay is worldwide know for his Fried Eggs and Food paintings with an eye for the old Dutch master style. Combined with his own unique style and choise of subjects, in my opinion make Tjalf Sparnaay unique. For me personally, Tjalf is one of the best still life painters of our time. We are so pleased that Tjalf gave Re-Art the opportunity to publish the “Easter Egg” with our 25LMTD project.
